We need to verify some recent activity on your Commonwealth Bank debit card”? Beware It’s a scam! The voice message is not from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

What Is The +61 2 7229 3128 Scam Commonwealth Bank Text?

The voice text which claims to come from the Commonwealth Bank debit card lost prevention centre is a scam that contact people with the following numbers; 02 7229 3128, +61 2 7229 3128. The scammers claim the recipients debit card has been compromised so it has been blocked. In order to unblock, they are told to call a toll free number;1300459098.

More than hundred people have received this scam voice calls and text messages. The commonwealth bank debit card scam text has the following formats;

How Does The Scam Work?

When you call the toll free number ‘1300459098’ you’ll be made to speak with a fake customer care agent who’d ask for your personal information and debit/credit card details.

This is where the scam comes in.

Once you provide the details on your credit or debit card, the scammers would withdraw all the money in your bank account. This is because they’re not the legit Commonwealth Bank officials. Meanwhile, Commonwealth Bank of Australia do not contact people with such number, neither would they ask you to call them back or provide your credit card details.

Contact Your Bank Immediately

Message your bank immediately if you’re worried about the security of your account. Your bank’s virtual assistant can help you lock your card or securely connect you to a specialist.

Report it

Report fraud via the Australian Cyber Security Centre. Reports may be referred to the police for possible investigation.
