Chipotle Class Action Lawsuit: Are You Qualified? Find Out
Did you hear about the Chipotle Class Action Lawsuit? It’s not a scam
Chipotle’s in trouble because they’re getting sued over how they handle gift card refunds. Apparently, they don’t refund purchases made with gift cards, even if the food never gets delivered. The lawsuit says Chipotle’s got different policies for regular refunds and gift cards, and people aren’t happy about it.
Who Is Behind The Chipotle Class Action Lawsuit
Apparently, Chipotle’s policy of not giving refunds for gift card purchases is rubbing people the wrong way. Even though they advertise their gift cards as being as good as cash, they won’t refund them the same way they would for regular purchases. Instead, they’re offering meal vouchers, but the lawsuit says those vouchers are pretty much useless because they come with all sorts of restrictions, like expiring after just 30 days and not covering delivery costs.
How Much Is The Settlement
There is no settlement amount for now.
Chipotle apparently gets ton of cash each year from unused gift cards. According to the class action, any change in how many people actually use these cards could seriously hit Chipotle’s profits. They even mentioned in their annual report that a small decrease in the number of unused gift cards could have cost them about $0.6 million in food and beverage revenue for 2023.
Conclusion
Terry v. Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc., Case No. 8:24-cv-00354 is not a scam. Just like Big Brothers Big Sisters Data Breach Lawsuit, Chipotle is saying gift cards are like cash but not giving refunds for them is upsetting customers.
