Country Code 852 WhatsApp Scam – Crypto Trader in Hongkong

Beware of WhatsApp text messages from  +852 area code telephone number. It is not genuine! Scammers are  sending random Area Code 852 Scam WhatsApp messages from +63 telephone numbers claiming they want to visit potential victims.

Since 2021, more than hundred people have complained of receiving this 852 Area Code Scam WhatsApp text message. Previously, the scammers pretended to be Japanese girls living in Hong Kong. Lately, they’ve started pretending to be crypto day traders or gold analyst.

How Does The Country Code 852 WhatsApp Scam Text From Hong Kong Work?

The scammers approach people on WhatsApp or sometimes Tinder, pretending to be ladies. They often claim they’ve have a business in cosmetics or crypto, and want to expand to your city as well. They always speak in bad English and refuse the option of video call.

I also received a random msg from a pretty girl on whatsapp from a HK 852 9523XXXX number.

her: HI Nicole we are going out later, do you want to come?

me: ok, where are you going?

her: mall

me: ok where are we meeting?

her: oh I think I have the wrong number

She kept chatting to me for a while, asked me to use Telegram instead so chatted to her there for about 3hrs. I only replied when I had a moment to play the game but her replies were always very quick. She just happens to live in Australia like me but she is currently in HK settling properties after her divorce. My one is a half Korean Chinese girl. She is very pretty. I love her. She can’t wait to meet me for a coffee when she comes back to Aus and maybe we were meant to be. She knows there are not many good people out there but she really is one of them and would never do anything bad to anyone. She also can’t speak English very well, even though she was raised in Aus

So what happens when you continue chatting with the number?

They convince you to invest in one shady crypto website or the other. If you decline, they will promise to visit your country, but this is another kind of scam altogether. A phone call allegedly from airport authority would claim your guest brought some item for you. You’ll be told that as per custom requirement they cannot deliver goods but if you send money they will adjust and relieve your goods. Sadly, when you send the money you’ll not receive any parcel. This is because it’s all a scam from the beginning.

First of all, delete the WhatsApp message immediately as it is obviously a scam. Then, inform your family and friends to stay away from such messages. Thirdly, report the scam. This can be done the following ways –

  • Copy the message and forward it to 7726 (SPAM). This helps your wireless provider spot and block similar messages in the future.
  • Report it on the messaging app you use. …
  • Report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
