What Is Electrizap
ElectriZap or Electrizap is an electric mosquito killer that uses UV light and a high voltage grid to attract and zap mosquitoes. The device was formerly called ‘Blitzy Bug’ then later ‘Fuzebug‘. Same orange color, same design. Just like the older versions, Electrizap works by emitting UV light, which attracts mosquitoes towards it.
If you’re someone who hates the idea of using chemicals for insect control, Electrizap is a good alternative. is Aside from being compact and portable, it is an eco-friendly and chemical-free alternative to traditional mosquito control methods.
However, the question you must be asking is this; does Electrizap really eliminate mosquitoes? Lets look into its efficacy in getting rid of insects and mosquitoes.
I Tested Electrizap Mosquito Killer on My Porch, Here’s The Outcome;
I did a 10 hours test with this product in my porch. Normally, I’ve always had trouble dealing with mosquitoes and bugs in my porch. After a 10 hour use, I noticed the following about this product –
- It attracted moths, bugs but very few mosquitoes.
- Not all insects that perched around the UV/LED were vacuumed, some flew away.
- When I unscrew the bottom of the Electrizap, most of the insects were still alive, and they flew away!
ElectriZap Mosquito Zapper – Does It Kill Only Mosquitoes?
No, it doesn’t work on only mosquitoes. If you’re wondering if it’d do the same job with bugs and gnats, then you shouldn’t worry anymore. Though it is called Electrizap Mosquito Killer it also works as a bug zapper. I think you should know that mosquitoes are not the only insects that are drawn to light.
That is to say; if you find bugs or moths problematic, you should give this product a try.
What I Like About Electrizap

- Unlike other pest controls, this is odorless and safe.
Electrizap: What I Don’t Like About This Mosquito Zapper
- It doesn’t actually kill lots of mosquitoes like I expected
- Battery life could be longer, not just 6 hrs.
What You Need To Know Before Buying Electrizap
It’s efficacy in eliminating mosquito is being debated by researchers. New York Times has even addressed the issue on this article here. It is true that bug zappers like Electrizap work by emitting a UV light that attracts bugs to the center of the device, where they’re electrocuted. The only problem: They aren’t killing the bugs that bother you.
According to studies, mosquitos are not attracted to ultraviolet light. They will try to use ultraviolet light to navigate. Most bug zappers using ultraviolet light are killing other flying insects, not mosquitoes. Traps utilizing carbon dioxide are more effective than bug lights. but rather to cO2 and water vapor.
Forget the positive reviews online, A study from the University of Delaware tracked six residential bug zappers over a 10-week period and found that of the 13,789 insects killed, only 31 were biting flies (including mosquitoes).
That’s a sad 0.22 percent. Given this, it’s no shock that the authors of the study concluded that bug zappers are “worthless for biting fly reduction.”
Summary
Electrizap is a great product if you want to get rid of bugs or insects. However, it doesn’t work as much on mosquitoes. Still, if you battle just few mosquitoes, you can give Electrizap zapper a try.
