Eye Care Leaders Data Breach Settlement: Is It A Scam? Read This
Did you receive the Eye Care Leaders Data Breach Settlement email? It’s not a scam.
Eye Care Leaders, or ECL for short, just settled a class action lawsuit for over $4 million. What’s the problem? Well, there were some claims that patient and doctor data got messed up during ransomware attacks in 2021. They’re trying to make things right with this big settlement.
Who Is Eligible For The Eye Care Leaders Data Breach Settlement
If you’re part of an eye care clinic that teamed up with Eye Care Leaders to handle things like record-keeping and practice management, there’s some good news coming your way.
Now, let’s break it down into groups:
- iMedicWare Crew: If you used the iMedicWare software for EMR management and had some problems since January 1, 2019 – you’re in.
- MyCare Integrity Squad: If you rolled with the myCare Integrity software for EMR management and faced some outages since January 1, 2019 – welcome aboard.
- MVE Team: If you got EMR management services using the MyVisionExpress software and dealt with outages since January 1, 2019 – you’re part of the crew too.
How Much Is The Settlement
Eye Care Leaders, or ECL, is settling a class action lawsuit for $4.07 million, even though they’re not saying they did anything wrong. Now, the interesting part is where that money is going.
About $2.61 million is set aside to pay back patients who got caught up in the data breach, and another $1.46 million is there for doctors and eye clinics who were affected. Now, if extra cash rolls in from insurance claims, it could boost the doctor fund up to $9.5 million.
Now, for you patients out there, you could snag up to $5,000 in reimbursement for things like bank fees, credit expenses, or any other hassles tied to the data breach. You just have to show the receipt.
