Does water freeze in your pipes during winter? Ever thought about how this little gadget, the Freeze Miser, could be a game-changer in keeping outdoor faucets safe from freezing? Frozen faucets can be a real problem especially if you live in colder environments.
In this review, I’ll share my experience testing out the Freeze miser, it’s pros and cons to help you make an informed decision.
What Is Freeze Miser
Freeze Miser is a gadget that helps to stop frozen pipes on and effect of damage during the cold weather, it’s easy and effective. It works like a home thermostat but for outdoor faucets. It only starts dripping water when the faucet’s water temperature goes below 37º F/3º C, not just the air around it. It won’t release water until it senses that activation temperature. The manufacturers have changed names over the years from Ice sweeper to mine sweeper and then Freeze miser.
How Does Freeze Miser Work
It works as a thermostat for your outdoor faucet. All you need to do is Install it with your hose or faucet, and it make sure your faucet won’t freeze by releasing water when the temperature drops below 37°F/3°C.
Testing The Freeze Miser
I’ve got eight hose bibs around my place in San Antonio, where the weather likes to play tricks on us. It can go from a nice 70 degrees during the day to freezing at night. Anyway, I stumbled upon this Freeze Miser thing and decided to Order it from their official website, it showed up in just a week.
Upon arrival, i Installed the thing, i noticed there are no leaks whatsoever. All good until the temperature decided to drop. Started with a steady drip, drip, drip, and as it got colder, the flow picked up a bit. But there was no frozen pipes! that’s an improvement because these pipes freeze every winter when the temp drops to below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
The only thing I can think of as a potential hiccup is if some dirt or something gets stuck in the device, messing with its closing action as the temperature rises. But so far, so good!

Does The Freeze Miser Work?
Yes it works. However, customer reports have mentioned that when it gets super cold, the freeze miser can get a bit messy. Water starts dripping out and pooling on the ground, creating a mini ice hill if it stays below freezing( 32°F)for a while. Just a heads up to watch your step around that area. A customer report said
I like the idea – However, the execution and support was lacking.
Used a Y connect with a cattle float tank in 15-25 lows weather. Worked for the first week, then entire line froze every night thereafter. When it didn’t freeze there was so much water leaked, it was a swamp.
I contacted Mfgr, cause it was supposed be a 2 yr warranty. Was told that this should never fail. They would send me a return envelope for them to test – NEVER GOT EVENLOPE
