Unboxing and Testing: My Experience Flying Qinux Drone K8
It arrived in a box clearly marked made in CHINA not AMERICA. The drone looks well built and it gets airborne, however it has lots of flaws. First of all, the camera is crap. The crystal clear footage that they advertise is not achievable. The camera quality is nothing like the benchmark Mavik Mini drone which costs 4 times as much.
Secondly, Qinux Drone K8 is quite difficult to fly even as an expert that I am. Even when connected to the app, the drone seems to get a mind of its own and just looks for something to crash in to. Trimming kind of works but takes too long in which time the controls freeze and the drone crashes (again).
The 3 speed setting does not work, it is just one speed level. The obstacle avoidance setting simply does not work. It crashes into the first thing it comes across. Even the remote control doesn’t link to my phone so I have to use my phone.
Meanwhile, I ordered a spare battery estimating a total of around an hour of flight due to the advertisement but in reality I got around 10 minutes on a fully charged battery so that gave me 20 minutes even with the spare.
3 Things You Should Know Before Buying & Using Qinux Drone K8
Fake Background Story
The commercials you see online is totally false. Qinux Drone K8 was not designed by ex SEALs and only available to the military, nor is it designed and manufactured in NZ. Also, the story that it was developed by a South African who was the former head of R&D for a large drone brand is untrue. As you can see, the back story is inconsistent. There are different Ads targeting different regions and countries.
Fake Drone Footage
The footage used in the advertisement is not from the drone itself. The footage is from a dji mavic air which is actually one of the best drones out there. Simply put; the advertisers are using the footage of a quality drone to sell an inferior drone. We’ve seen this happen many times with fad products. It is called ‘bait and switch scam’.
Quite Expensive
Qinux Drone K8 was formerly sold as ‘AeroQuad; before then it was ‘SkyQuad‘. It’s just a drone for kids that is actually worth $30 on Amazon or Aliexpress. What the company behind this product does is bulk buy this crappy drone from China, invest in aggressive marketing, then change the name of the drone once there are lots of complaints online. Qinux Drone K8 – Is this drone a Scam?
First of all as a drone expert myself, I wasn’t surprise to find out that the Qinux Drone K8 is not worth the price it is sold. In fact, in reality it is worth $30 on Amazon. Meanwhile, one of the major complaints documented is that the company uses deceptive marketing to lure buyers. The claim that it’s worth $600 but is sold for $99 is totally false. See what a costumer has to say below –
The drone is a cheap toy. All of the marketing claims are lies:
– the motor is weak, slightest breeze blows it off course
Hillary
– the battery lasts 10 – 14 mins
– the camera quality is ok, but only what you would expect from a cheap toy. Nothing like the benchmark Mavik Mini drone which costs 4 times as much
So yes, the Qinux Drone K8 is a scam, it is a cheap drone made in Hong Kong China and sold with false advertising. Even the instructions
What I Like About Qinux Drone K8
- It has a lightweight and portable design
- it has propeller guards
What I Don’t Like
- Has issues with connectivity and stability
- Camera quality is poor
- The transmission range is about 100 – 150 metres max.
- Its battery has a short life span of 10minutes
Conclusion:
Qinux Drone K8 is misleading sold as a quality drone worth $600 but in reality it’s a drone modelled after Eachine E58. It lacks a gimball, the camera quality is so terrible, the battery life is poor, and it’s not worth $99. You can get a drone with same spec for $30 on Amazon.
