StopWatt Reviews, Pros & Cons After 1 Year of Using This Energy Saver
Are you searching for StopWatt energy saving device reviews? Look no further! I Bought and tested StopWatt for the past one year to find out its efficacy in saving power & reducing electricity consumption. Here’s my review of StopWatt energy saver.
Overview of StopWatt Energy Saving Device
StopWatt or Stop Watt is a device that is sold with the claims of its ability to reduce and stabilize the flow of electricity. By doing so, it prevents energy waste and regulates power supply so that users can only pay for energy needed and use.
Sounds interesting right? But are these claims true? Keep reading to find out.
Does StopWatt Really Work? My Experience Using Stop Watt Energy Saver
I ordered for this energy saving device after my friend talked me into buying it. One week later, it arrived, looking like it did in the advertisement and pictures online. It was very much easy to use; I only needed to plug it directly into a wall socket (PS; don’t use extension). When plugged, it displayed a green indicating light, showing it is working.
However, after two months use, my light bill still pretty much remained the same. I was even surprised to see a spike of $10 extra on the second month.
So No, StopWatt does not really work. It does not save energy or save power as claimed. After spending $49 on this device, I didn’t see any reduction in my electricity usage or energy bills. Clearly, StopWatt is not a power saver.
How To Use
- Plug StopWatt into any power outlet (not an extension)
- Wait for the green indicator light to come on
Viola! easy peasy
Is StopWatt a Legit or Scam Energy Saver?
As a consumer with no knowledge of electricity, I gave a professional electrician my StopWatt device and the first thing he did was laugh at my gullibility. This is what he said; StopWatt cannot slash your power bill or reduce your electricity consumption by filtering dirty electricity. There is NO WAY any device of this size can stabilize a home electrical AC supply or produce the savings advertised. Electrical consumption is based on total power consumed and NOT phase corrected VAR.
Meanwhile, when he dissected the device he discovered it only contains a capacitor placed across the power line. This actually might do a little bit of power factor correction, but you are not billed for reactive power at home. So it saves you nothing in money.
Stop Watt is also a fire hazard. It is not rated for connection across the AC line. It is a fire hazard if there is a lightning strike nearby. Capacitors connected directly to the AC line are supposed to have an “X” rating for safety. Meanwhile, Voltex, Voltbox, Watt Rescue, Ecowatt, Miracle Watt, are names which it was called in the past. When you click on the links, you’ll see tons of complaints from users calling it BS. If I were you I wouldn’t go an inch near it, except of course you just want to use it as a toy.
So yes, StopWatt is a scam device that does not work. During the two months of use, I didn’t notice any reduction in my electricity consumption. In fact, my monthly electricity bill had an extra $10 charge, which was unlike before.
StopWatt Pros
- It’s portable
StopWatt Energy Saver Cons: What I Don’t Like About This Power Saver
- It does not really work. It is just a white box that shows green light when plugged
- It is not made by Elon Musk as claimed
- The company didn’t fulfill their 90 days money back guarantee ( I couldn’t return it)
- Instead of lowering my electricity bill, I saw an increase in the two months I used this device
5 Better Ways To Save Energy & Lower Your Power Bill
Below are top 5 ways to reduce your electricity consumption and get a lower electric bill the coming months –
Shutdown your computer
If you work from home or run an office, your computer is likely the culprit causing you high electricity bill. Computers are some of the biggest energy users in office buildings. Turn your monitor off at night and ditch the screensaver.
2. Choose Energy Saving Bulbs
For your information, LED bulbs are the most energy efficient lighting option. It use 75% less electricity than incandescent bulbs. The also have no mercury, and last about 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. So opt for LED bulbs over incandescent bulbs.
3. Unplug Idle Electronics.
You have devices like televisions, microwaves, scanners, printers, etc.? Unplug them after use! They use standby power, even when off. Some chargers continue to pull small amounts of energy, even when plugged in (a good judge of this is if a charger feels warm to the touch). In the US, the total electricity consumed by idle electronics equals the annual output of 12 power plants (EPA).
4. Use a Power Strip to Reduce Your Plug load.
To avoid forgetting to unplug your devices, use a power strip to turn all devices off at once. Flipping the switch on your power strip has the same effect as unplugging each socket from the wall, preventing phantom energy loss.
5. Turn off the lights
This is very important. Especially when you’re not making use of the light. Just one switch and you’re done!
Conclusion
The efficacy of StopWatt energy saving device is not yet established. All the claims made by the manufacturers are not backed with any proof or data. During my two months, I noticed no change in my electricity consumption. Rather, I had a $10 increment in my electricity bill.
You are so right! I was scammed into ordering these thinking it would work.
It is the old adage, if it sounds to good it probably isn’t!!! I just put $100 Bucks in a ash trey and burned it….
It seems that the internet has has become a bigger problem than anyone ever saw coming. It is good for
sending a note to a friend or maybe purchasing a gift without having to go to the mall. Otherwise it only
causes people to open up their lives to scams. I wish it wasn’t so but there are just too many crooks waiting,
to take your money and your hope. It is best said “it’ll be hot down there”.
