Vinhistorygo.com is a scam website that lures vehicle owners with $1 vehicle history reports, but fails to send the report, and then continue to dubiously charge victims $47 monthly.
We investigated Vinhistorygo.com , here’s how the scam site works, how to avoid it, and how to stop the charges.
Vinhistorygo.com Scam Reports
Misleads you to believe you’ll only pay $1, with $29 US charged every 2 weeks thereafter, but immediately also charges the $29 USD ($45 AUD). And they just give you a PDF saying “no problems reported” for things you don’t even need to know, but nothing useful. No real info. Scam.
100% Scam, report has no relevant information and not clearly advertised that they wont do 1 off reports. no chance in cancelling its automated and the responses are generic and no help at all, i had to call my bank to cancel the card used for the “$1” report after they already took $44. avoid at all cost!
I was sucked in to FREE VIN check, then asked for bank details to deduct $1.00. I did not get an email report so transferred my money to another account, cancelled the debit card and ordered a new card. No money has been taken from my account, not even the initial $1.00. He who hesitayes loses.
How Does The Vinhistorygo.com Scam Works
- lures you with cheap vehicle report offer or uses a fake potential buyer of your car to make you get
- Fails to send the vehicle data
- Continues to charge you monthly
How To Completely Stop The Vinhistorygo.com Charge on Your Credit Card
Vinhistorygo.com has a contract with VISA so they’ll continue charging you even if you get a new credit card.
- Tell your card issuer by phone, email or letter
- Provide evidence of the monthly charge
- Point out to the card issuer that they should follow the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) guidance on unauthorised payments from your account.
- Contact the Financial Ombudsman Service helpline on 0300 123 9 123 or visit the website at: www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk (if you live in UK).
Your card issuer has no right to insist that you ask the company taking the payment first. They have to stop the payments if you ask them to.
If you ask to stop a payment, the card issuer should investigate each case on its own merit.
Meanwhile, if your car is up for sale online, you should do the following :
- Go to one of the genuine agencies and purchase a report yourself. (You might pay as little as $10 and up to $50 for a detailed report)
- You can offer it as an incentive as part of your ad. (You’re more likely to attract serious buyers that way — and no scammer is likely to ask you for an alternative report)
Conclusion
Vinhistorygo.com is a viral scam targeting car owners. The fake website does not send the vehicle report but instead charge users monthly even when they get a new credit card. Beware of car buyers who insist that you get your vehicle report from this website!
